Douglas Guedes, Chair, Insurance Brokers Association of BC

Doug went into the general insurance business in 1978, after graduating from the University of Victoria. He worked with such primary insurers as Royal, Canadian Indemnity, and Do¬minion of Canada until 1989. From then until 1994, he was Regional Casualty Manager at Munich Reinsurance.  Over this combined period, he transacted business in 6 provinces.

A Fellow of the Insurance Institute of Canada since 1988, Doug became a principal in SeaFirst Insurance Brokers, located on the Saanich Peninsula north of Victoria, in 1994.

He has served as President of both the Saanich Pennisula Chamber of Commerce and the Sidney Business Association.

Doug has served on the Board of Directors of the Insurance Brokers Association of B.C. since 2002, starting as director and advancing through the executive to serve as president in 2006. In this time, Doug chaired several committees and task forces.  He currently acts as Chairman.

Doug and Debbie have been married 26 years and live in Sidney. He has been known to enjoy a game of golf.
