John P. Phelan, Retired Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Munich Reinsurance America, Inc.

John Phelan was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Munich Reinsurance America, Inc., Princeton, New Jersey, and was a member of Munich Reinsurance Company’s Board of Management.  Prior to assuming these positions in March 2002, John was President of Munich Reinsurance Company of Canada for 16 years.

John was a member of the Board of Trustees of the AICPCU, and has served on the Executive Committee and Board of Directors of the Reinsurance Association of America (RAA), as well as the Education Committee and Board of Overseers of the School of Risk Management. 

Throughout his career, John has served as a Director and Chairman on numerous insurance and reinsurance councils and committees in the US and Canada.  He is currently a member of the FCIP Curriculum Committee of the Insurance Institute of Canada.

John was educated at Patrician College in Ireland, and obtained his Fellowship from the Insurance Institute of Canada.  He also earned an Associate in Risk Management from the Insurance Institute of America.
