 Ronald Joas is a director in Standard and Poor’s Insurance Ratings Group. Having joined Standard and Poor’s in May 2006, Ron is responsible for providing direction on the manner in which financial statement information is analyzed and incorporated into Standard and Poor’s financial analysis and ratings considerations for entities within the U.S. Financial Services Group.
Prior to joining Standard and Poor’s, Ron served as a technical resource in PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP’s National Risk and Quality Office. In that role, he advised both insurance and non-insurance entities primarily on financial instruments, including derivatives/embedded derivatives, share repurchase transactions, debt/convertible debt, preferred/convertible preferred stock, guarantees, beneficial conversion features, insurance contracts, and risk transfer matters.
Ron also provided audit services for several large insurance firms, having served in the assurance and advisory services practice of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP’s New York office. He was previously a personal and commercial lines underwriter and supervisor for the State Farm Insurance Companies, leading a team of underwriters responsible for loss and coverage analyses, product line profitability and viability, and implementation of loss control programs.
Ron is a Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU). He is a licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in New York and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). He graduated cum laude with a BS in Finance and International Business from the University of Colorado – Denver, and an MBA in Finance and International Business from New York University – Stern School of Business.
