Gregg Hanson is the immediate past President and CEO of Wawanesa Mutual. He joined Wawanesa in 1979 and progressed through various positions with the company, including three years in Wawanesa’s San Diego, California operation. He returned to Winnipeg as Winnipeg Branch Manager in 1985, and in 1990 saw a promotion to Vice President and General Manager. He has held his current position since November 1992.
Mr. Hanson graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) Degree. He obtained a chartered accountant designation while employed with Touche Ross and Co. (now Deloitte). He obtained Fellowship in the Life Management Institute (FLMI) in 1981, and Fellowship in the Insurance Institute of Canada (FIIC) in 1989. In 1992, he completed one month Advanced Executive Education Program at Wharton Business School, University of Pennsylvania. Mr. Hanson has also completed numerous business and management courses on a continuing education basis, including Conversational French at St. Boniface College.
Mr. Hanson has several charitable organization commitments, including Chairman of The Winnipeg Foundation, Chairman of Finance for 1999 Pan American Games in Winnipeg, various United Way of Winnipeg committees, and many others.
Mr. Hanson is a former Council member of the Insurance Institute of Manitoba, and past member of the Board of the Center for the Study of Insurance Operations. He is Past Chairman of the Insurance Institute of Canada, the Property & Casualty Insurance Compensation Corporation and the Institute for Catastrophic Loss Reduction. Mr. Hanson is a Board and Executive member of Insurance Bureau of Canada, and a member of the Board of Directors for James Richardson and Sons Limited.
In 1998, Mr. Hanson was the recipient of the Ignatian Challenge Award at a tribute dinner organized by St. Paul’s High School (his Alma Mater). In 1999, he was elected as a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants (FCA). Mr. Hanson is married with two adult children.
