Alice Underwood

Executive Vice President, Willis Re Inc.

Alice leads the Analytics team for Willis Re North America; this team provides actuarial services, catastrophe management services, financial services and enterprise risk management services to Willis Re clients. Alice is based in New York.

Prior to joining Willis Re in 2006 as Senior Vice President, Alice was a Senior Vice President at Guy Carpenter, where she co-managed an INSTRAT team of twelve actuaries and catastrophe modelers. During her time at Guy Carpenter she performed and supervised actuarial analyses in various lines of business, focusing on casualty and professional liability. She also provided actuarial support for business development and RFP responses.

Alice’s experience prior to Guy Carpenter includes 2 years at Converium Reinsurance, where she managed the Specialty Lines Pricing Team supporting the Professional Liability, Surety, Workers’ Compensation and Risk Strategies departments. From 1999 through 2002, she worked for Zurich Financial Services, providing actuarial pricing support for the internal and outward reinsurance strategy of the Zurich Group and rising to the level of Vice President. She began her career in the industry in 1996 with Zurich Re in Zurich, Switzerland.

Alice is an active member of the Casualty Actuarial Society, volunteering her time to support several CAS committees. In 2011 she took on the role of CAS Vice President – Research & Development, having served on the CAS Board of Directors the prior 3 years. In 2008 she served as President of the Casualty Actuaries of Greater New York, previously holding various officer positions with CAGNY. In addition, Alice has co-written several articles for the Actuarial Review.

Alice holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics from Princeton University and a B.S. with Highest Honors in Mathematics from The University of Texas. She is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society, a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries and a Chartered Enterprise Risk Analyst.
