David McCauley has over twenty years of experience working in the nuclear field for the federal government. Currently, he is the Director of the Uranium and Radioactive Waste Division within the Energy Sector of Natural Resources Canada. His responsibilities include the development and implementation of federal policies in the areas of uranium, radioactive wastes, and nuclear liability. In the area of nuclear liability, his Division is responsible for providing policy advice on Canada’s Nuclear Liability Act.
In January 2014, the Government introduced new legislation in Parliament to replace the Nuclear Liability Act with modern legislation that meets current international standards and would permit Canada to become a party to international conventions in this area.
David represents Canada on the International Atomic Energy Agency’s Group of International Experts in the Area of Nuclear Liability. He holds a Master’s Degree in Environmental Studies from York University.
