Maurice Tulloch

CEO International Insurance, Aviva

Maurice was appointed CEO International Insurance in January 2017, with responsibility for Aviva’s insurance operations in France, Canada, Ireland, Italy, Poland, Turkey, Spain and India, which accounted for 36% of Aviva’s 2016 operating profit. He was appointed Executive Director of the Aviva plc Board in June 2017.

Maurice was previously Chairman Global General Insurance, leading Aviva’s largest general insurance businesses, a role he assumed in June 2016 after a period of almost 3 years as Chief Executive Officer of Aviva’s UK & Ireland General Insurance business. Maurice has been a member of the Group Executive Committee since July 2012.

Prior to his move to the UK in 2013, Maurice held the role of Chief Executive Officer of Aviva Canada since November 2009. Prior to this he was Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer, Aviva Ontario and Specialty Distribution, a position he took up in January 2009. Since joining Aviva in 1992 Maurice has held several increasingly senior management positions, including an international role as Business Manager to the Group Chief Executive Officer of Aviva plc in London.

Maurice has been an active industry voice both in the UK and Canadian market. He sits on a number of our subsidiary boards, Pool Re Advisory Council and Insurance Europe Strategic Council. Previously Maurice was Chair of the ABI General Insurance Council, Chair of the Insurance Institute of Canada, Chair of the Property & Casualty Insurance Compensation Corporation and Deputy Chair of the Insurance Bureau of Canada.

In November 2014 Maurice was appointed as Chair of ClimateWise and in July 2016 became Chairman of the ClimateWise Insurance Advisory Council, a body established to drive senior level engagement on how the insurance industry and its regulators can respond positively to the zero-carbon, climate-resilient transition. Maurice also sits on the Insurance Development Forum (IDF) steering committee which brings together the insurance industry with governments and international institutions, both public and private, to drive and promote the use of insurance as a key vehicle to increase global resilience to climate-related events.

Maurice is a Chartered Professional Management Accountant (CPA), and holds a Masters in Business Administration (MBA). He is an active supporter of the United Way and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) and a member of the UK Catalyst Programme.
