Monica Ningen

President & CEO, Canada and English Caribbean, Swiss Re

Monica is President and CEO of Swiss Re Canada and the English Caribbean and is responsible for the company’s Property & Casualty and Life & Health reinsurance operations in these regions. She is the Chief Agent of the Swiss Re Canadian Branch and responsible for the associated business performance. Based in Toronto since July 2018, Monica fosters Swiss Re’s strategic client relationships and helps raise awareness of key topics that impact the regions. She’s also part of the Swiss Re team that maintains relationships with policymakers and regulators.

Monica was previously Head of Property Underwriting for the US & Canada and Chief Property Underwriter where she managed the underwriting performance of a large premium portfolio of property fire and natural catastrophe business, as well as the team members that supported the business. Before that, she was Head of Property Underwriting, Regional & National and Head of Property Treaty Underwriting for Swiss Re’s Kansas City Hub.

Monica joined Swiss Re following the acquisition of GE Insurance Solutions (GEIS) in June 2006. During her time with GEIS, Monica had responsibility for Catastrophe Risk Management globally. Before that she held the position of Six Sigma Master Black Belt as part of the GE Six Sigma organization where she led the Six Sigma initiatives for the Risk Management and Actuarial departments. Monica joined Employers Reinsurance Corporation in 2000 in Overland Park, KS. She began her career with EW Blanch Minneapolis on the catastrophe modeling team.

Monica received a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Business Management from the University of Minnesota. She resides in Toronto with her husband and two daughters.
