Reid Fiest is Global National’s Alberta Correspondent and based in Calgary, Alta. On May 3, 2016 he and his photographer were in Fort McMurray, Alta. and became fire evacuees themselves. They fled the flames approaching the Fort McMurray community of Beacon Hill. Later, he was broadcasting live on Global National with Dawna Friesen, as the fire consumed trees behind him along Highway 63. Fiest spent a week in the Wood Buffalo area covering the fire, and has returned numerous times to report on the return and the rebuild. Fiest joined Global News in 2006 after graduating from the Broadcast Program at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology. He’s born and raised in Calgary, but travels across Western Canada and the United States covering stories for Global National.
