Dennis Gartner was appointed Alberta’s Assistant Deputy Minister of Pensions, Insurance and Financial Institutions and Superintendent of Financial Institutions. This position includes responsibility for pension, insurance, securities and provincially regulated financial institutions.
Dennis is a career public servant who has spent the past 33 years working for the Alberta and Saskatchewan governments. Prior to joining Alberta Finance, he was Assistant Deputy Minister in various departments, including Municipal Affairs, Human Resources and Employment and Labour. He also worked in departments responsible for, corrections, policing, social services, environment and health & professional regulation.
Dennis has been involved with pension regulation for several years. He sits on the Board of Director of the Alberta Pensions Administration (APA) Association and the Canada Association of Pension Supervisory Authorities (CAPSA). He is also a member of the Joint Forum of Financial Market Regulators.
Dennis believes in education and life long learning; He holds two undergraduate degrees, as well as a Master of Social Work from McGill University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Alberta.
