J. Eric Smith is President and CEO of Swiss Re Americas, and a member of Swiss Re’s Executive Committee. He joined the company in June 2011.

Prior to Swiss Re, J. Eric Smith was President at USAA Life Insurance Co., where he led the effort to provide life, health and annuity solutions through direct channels. Before USAA, he was President of Allstate Financial Services where he was responsible for the Allstate agency line of business. He started his career with Country Financial, where he spent over 20 years helping to build its Property and Casualty business.
He has a BS in Finance from the University of Illinois and an MBA from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management.
Mr. Smith serves on the boards of the American Council for Life Insurers (ACLI), International Insurance Society (IIS), Insurance Information Institute (III) and Swiss American Foundation.
