Geoff Smith is the senior executive for EllisDon, an employee-owned international construction services company, founded in 1951. The company is a Platinum member of National Post’s 50 Best Managed Companies in Canada and was ranked by Hewitt Associates as the Number One Company in Canada in 2007, 08 and in 2011. EllisDon is active in North America, Europe, Asia and the Caribbean, and will achieve $3 billion in revenues this year.
Geoff obtained his law degree in 1979 and has spent more than thirty years with EllisDon assuming various management positions as Vice-President for Western Canada, and as C.O.O. before assuming his current responsibilities as CEO in 1997.
Mr. Smith has led EllisDon into broader construction related services including Project Management, Equity Participation, Facilities Management, Communications Services, and Insurance Services, among others. EllisDon also owns and operates Windjammer Landing Villa Beach Resort, a five-star resort on the island of St. Lucia, which has also received several awards.
Geoff has been an active member of the community, serving on the Board of Halton Healthcare Services, and is past Chair of the Ontario Liberal Fund. He served as a curriculum development advisor to Ryerson University, and previously chaired Technology in the City, a partnership campaign for the George Brown College, which raised over $15 million. In 2011, Mr. Smith received the Jock Tindale Memorial Award from the Ontario General Contractor’s Association for ‘integrity in the construction industry’.
