Julien Reid

Director, Standards and Business Intelligence, AMF

Mr. Julien Reid, who is a lawyer by profession, holds the position of Director, Standards and Business Intelligence within the Solvency unit of the Autorité des marchés financiers (Québec) (“AMF”). He previously served as AMF Assistant Director, Standards. He oversees the drafting of Guidelines and regulation for financial institutions authorized to carry on business in the province of Québec, except for banks. These Guidelines deal specifically with sound and prudential management practices, market conduct and complaints handling.

Before joining AMF Solvency, he was a member of AMF Legal Affairs, where he was assigned in particular to legislative and regulatory matters related to securities as well as corporate law and regulations in respect of insurance and trust companies. Me Reid began practicing law at Fasken Martineau, where he focused primarily on commercial litigation and insurance. He then joined Flynn Rivard in the area of corporate law and bank financing and subsequently became a member of McCarthy Tétrault, where he specialized in project and bank financing matters, before joining the AMF in 2004. Me Reid co-authored Alter Ego – Code de procédure civile du Québec during nine years and is the author of Code des Sûretés 2005, both published by Wilson & Lafleur. He has taught at the School of the Barreau de Québec (Québec Bar) and has been invited by numerous organizations to give talks. He was called to the Bar of the Province of Québec in 1991.
