Marcos Alvarez is the Managing Director of Morningstar DBRS’ Global Insurance Ratings. He leads the firm’s global team responsible for covering insurance and reinsurance companies, as well as Canadian asset managers. Marcos has over two decades of experience in credit analysis and risk management covering a wide range of financial institutions and sectors across different regions and markets.
Before joining Morningstar DBRS in 2018, Marcos worked in corporate credit and counterparty risk for several global banks and a large pension fund in Toronto and New York. He began his career in insurance as a property and energy underwriter covering corporate accounts in Latin America. His credit research has been frequently quoted by Bloomberg, Reuters, Financial Times, The Globe & Mail, and other specialized insurance media.
Marcos holds a B.Sc. in Economics from the Universidad Católica Andrés Bello (Venezuela). He also holds a Master in Business Administration with distinction from the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto and completed a risk management executive education program at Harvard Business School.
