Mary Jane Stitt, FCIArb, is an independent counsel, mediator and arbitrator. With over 30 years of litigation and arbitration experience, Mary Jane’s practice emphasizes commercial insurance, directors’ and officers’ liability, product liability, professional negligence and class actions. She offers her services as a counsel, mediator and arbitrator through Mary Jane Stitt Professional Corporation. She is a partner emeritus of Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP, where she practiced from 1980 until 2013, and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.

Recognized as a leader in the commercial insurance field, Mary Jane has a broad-ranging insurance practice which includes coverage opinions, neutral evaluations and mediating and arbitrating claims under directors’ and officers’ liability, fiduciary liability, all risk property, boiler and machinery, crime, commercial general liability, Builders Risk, and professional errors and omissions policies and fidelity bonds. She performs independent insurance program reviews for corporate policyholders regarding the comprehensiveness and appropriateness of their coverage and suggested enhancements. She has had numerous independent advisory engagements by boards of directors of public companies, trustees of income trusts and prospective directors in initial public offerings regarding the design and procurement of their liability insurance programs, by-law and trust indemnities and personal indemnity agreements. She also has extensive experience in the organization and conduct of forensic, special committee and fraud investigations and associated insurance recovery litigation. She acted as counsel to the CICA Alliance for Excellence in Investigative and Forensic Accounting in connection with their new Standards for Investigative and Forensic Accounting Engagements.
