Michel Laurin

Michel Laurin was born in the region of Lanaudière and completed his High School studies at the Joliette Seminary and his College studies at the College of L’Assomption. Later, he obtained his Bachelor Degree in Actuarial Science from Laval University in 1985 and began his career in property and casualty insurance.

From 1985 to 1992, he worked for Les Coopérants, compagnie d’assurances générales, first as Actuarial Analyst and, in 1988, he was Supervisor of the Actuarial Department. During those 7 years, Michel was actively involved in all aspects of the job of actuary in IARD Insurances, such as pricing and segmentation, product development, assessment of actuarial reserves, statistical analysis, strategic planning and reinsurance.

In 1992, Michel joined the team of Meloche Monnex Inc. as Assistant Actuary, he was in charge of insurance pricing for individuals in all provinces of Canada. In 1994, he obtained his title of Fellow from the Casualty Actuarial Society and Canadian Institute of Actuaries.

From 1995 to 1998, he worked as Director of the Actuarial Department for L’Union Canadienne, compagnie d’assurances, and he established and managed a strong team of actuarial experts. Michel’s greatest achievement during that period was the creation of a micro-segmentation of pricing as well as a complete and efficient operating system of statistical information.

From 1998 to 2002, Michel returned to Meloche Monnex as Vice-President, Actuarial and Insurance Techniques, to manage both actuary and underwriter teams. Michel also contributed to the development of the company and its data processing systems by his active participation in the elaboration of company business strategies.

In March 2002, he accepted a colossal challenge, which is the presidency of Industrial Alliance Auto and Home Insurance Inc., in order to achieve the ambitious growth plan initiated by the Main Head Office, Industrial Alliance Insurance and Financial Services Inc. Under the Chairman of the Board, Michel Laurin was entrusted the responsibility to make Industrial Alliance Auto and Home Insurance inc. become a leader in direct distribution of auto and home insurance in province of Quebec.
