Patrick Thiele

President and CEO, PartnerRe Ltd.

Patrick Thiele was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of PartnerRe in December 2000. He was also made a Director of the Company.

With his 31-year background in the financial services industry, Patrick has extensive experience in finance, insurance, and management. Prior to joining PartnerRe, Patrick was Group Director of Development of CGNU (formerly CGU).

Before that, he spent 12 years at The St. Paul Companies, where he most recently served as Chief Executive Officer and President of the company’s worldwide insurance operations. Under his leadership, The St. Paul Companies became the fourth-largest commercial lines carrier and the eighth-largest property and casualty insurer in the U.S. Patrick was involved in all financial and operating functions, including: domestic acquisitions and expansion overseas and at Lloyd’s; restructuring by specialized business units; and launching a venture capital investment arm. At his departure, The St. Paul was a successful property and casualty insurer with assets exceeding $30 billion and premiums greater than $7 billion.

Patrick holds both a B.S. in Finance and an MBA from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, as well as the Chartered Financial Analyst designation. He currently serves on the boards of the School of Risk Management and Actuarial Science, New York, Wenger Corporation of Minnesota, Minnesota Public Radio, and the University of Wisconsin’s Graduate School of Business.
