Ronald Godin

Consumer Advocate for Insurance, Province of New Brunswick

Born and raised in Bathurst, Mr. Godin completed his Bachelor of Arts degree (political science), with the Governor General’s medal, at “Le Collège de Bathurst” in 1972.  He completed his law degree at the University of Ottawa in 1975 and he was admitted to the New Brunswick Bar that same year.  He was a Crown Prosecutor in Bathurst from 1975 to 1978 and thereafter in private practice, in Bathurst, with the law firm of Robichaud, Godin, Williamson, Theriault and Johnston, until his most recent appointment as Consumer Advocate.

Being very involved in his community Mr. Godin was, among others, President of the Organization Committee for “La Finale des Jeux de l’Acadie à Bathurst” in 1988, founding President of the Chaleur Regional Hospital Foundation in 1991 and a member of the Board of Directors of the Bathurst-Campbellton 2003 Canada Games.

On the professional level, Mr. Godin was a founding member of the New Brunswick Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, a member of the Insurance Management Committee of the Professional Liability Reserve Fund of the Law Society of New Brunswick, the representative of “L’Association des juristes d’expression française du Nouveau-Brunswick” on the Committee for the appointment of judges in New Brunswick, a member of the Board of Directors of the Law Foundation of New Brunswick and the representative of the Foundation on the “Comité du fonds de dotation de la Faculté de droit de l’Université de Moncton”.  He was also a founding member of “Les Conférences juridiques de la Péninsule” and a regular speaker at the Bar Admission Course over the years.  He was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1994.

On December 21, 2004, on the recommendation of the Legislative Assembly, Mr. Godin was appointed as Consumer Advocate for Insurance, for a term of 10 years, effective January 1, 2005.
